1.21 - Tempest

The Destiny Project

You are destined to be a big shot reporter at the Daily Planet.

We all know that Clark Kent is destined to be a hero, and Lex Luthor a villain, but just how often is this 'destiny' thrown about anyways? And what specifically does this destiny mean? A look at the word usage, whom has a destiny, and what exactly the foretold future is according to the dialog from the Pilot until Doomsday.

4.18, Spirit

Chloe is crusading against the Prom Queen tradition at SHS; she sees prom as the senior class's last party together and sees it needless to cap off four years with a popularity contest.  Lana notes that "Chloe Sullivan strikes again" but also remarks "balloons and taffeta seem a little harmless compared to your usual targets."  Chloe tries to twist Lana's arm to going stag even if it's just to hear Lifehouse when they get cornered by Dawn Styles who warns Chloe to back off.  Chloe is shocked and appalled to find she was nominated for Prom Queen.

2.22, Calling

Chloe goes into the Talon to get coffee before going out investigating with Pete saying that she's not "holding out for [her] fairy godmother to bring [her] glass slippers"; she runs into Lana and Clark who both look overly tired and she seems suspicious.  She tells Pete that she's ready to go having "ashes to sweep and wicked stepsisters to undermine."*

That night, Chloe goes to visit Clark at the barn to tell him that Dr. Walden woke up from his coma and to ask if he "wanted to come out of retirement to do a story with [her]."  Clark says it's not a great time; she clarifies that she didn't mean right this instant.  Chloe adds that she feels that there is a huge "rift" and that she feels like she can't get back to him.  Clark says it will take time; Chloe agrees that but if they act maturely and honestly she thinks that they will be okay.  She leaves him to his speech for Lex's wedding, and goes back to the Torch.

2.17, Rosetta

Chloe, Pete, Lana, and Clark are conversing about a history assignment to do family trees, Pete is the only one not bummed about it claiming that one never knows what mysteries will be found.  Chloe points out that the rest of them had their nuclear family "nuked long ago."  Lana suggests getting together to plan out the project, when Clark (after hearing an odd whining sound that only he could hear) runs out.

Later, Chloe lets Lana use the Torch to work on the project.  Chloe leaves and then comes back to find Lana looking through the pictures from the Spring Formal.   Lana tries to deflect the prying charge by telling Chloe to tell Clark about her feelings; Chloe says it's a matter of privacy, following up that she already had told Clark and that he'd called out Lana's name.

2.03, Duplicity

Maybe, but if there is some truth to it that's front page news - for the Daily Planet.

Chloe gets gets pulled into Lana's problems with Dean and Nell and covers for her, faking a "Keanu DVD-athon."  Chloe tells her that her house is always open to her.

Later that week, Chloe stumbles in between Pete and Clark's fight.  She asks "Why didn't [they] tell [her] about the superhero deal?" but is merely talking about Pete's rescue.  She notes his reluctance and puts them both on the spot, asking if they are trying to cover up "a whole spaceship thing."  When Pete tells her he saw a ship and met an alien, she snarks that she thought they were "little and green."  Clark tries to dissuade her from looking into the UFO, claiming it's Inquistor stuff, but Chloe tells him that finding a true alien is "front page news -- for the Daily Planet."

2.01, Vortex

Vortex picks up where Tempest left off; Chloe comes to visit Lana in the hospital where she tells her friend that Clark took off during the dance and that she spent three hours looking for him afterward.  Lana says that they are a cute couple; Chloe tells her that it's not any consolation.

A day or so later, Chloe's touched base with Clark and is with him (and Pete) looking for Jonathan Kent who went missing in the tornados.  She first spots the trailer that is trapping Jonathan and Roger Nixon, but none of them realize that they are under it.  Chloe finds Nixon's empty video camera.  (And, one finds it amusing that Jonathan calls for Chloe, then Pete, and not his own son.)

1.21, Tempest

Smallville, Episode 1.21: Chloe and ClarkSmallville, Episode 1.21: Chloe and ClarkClark is preparing for the Formal; trying to decide his tie color, get the flowers, and even thinking to borrow a limo from Lex because he "knows" she wants one even though she says she doesn't.  However, Chloe accidentally dashes his good mood when she tells him that the LuthorCorp plant was closed that morning.

Later that day, Clark meets Chloe in the Torch, claiming to have been looking for her; she tells him that she still wants to go to the Spring Formal to "appreciate all the quaint Smallville High customs while [she] can"; it turns out Gabe is talking of moving back to Metropolis permanently.  This doesn't thrill Clark or Chloe at all; Chloe makes Clark promise her that "Saturday is going to be great."  Clark tells her it will "be a night [she'll] never forget."
